My 2 takeaways from this week are: Be kind and get the split hem pants from Shein!
I have a feeling I am to blame for the Snowmaggedon. I was so excited for the warmer weather sneak peak, I ordered new spring outfits, and talked wayyyy too much about how nice it was outside. The past 2 weeks have absolutely wrecked my soul, and I am OVER this winter weather. Over. It. According to my research, in Redding, it snows every 5 years. It has snowed 4 times in the past 2 weeks. Make it make sense. Since my last outfits post, I have ordered 2 Shein packages... the first one had lots of duds and lots of potentials that weren't the right size, so I re-ordered those items in hopes I'd fall in love. I am SO glad I did because I'm currently obsessed with these split hem flare pants (scroll down to Friday)! The other pants... I'm still on the fence about it, but it's not always love at first sight; sometimes I have to try them on throughout the week since I am so indecisive. Also, I decided it was time to finally replace the $7 Walmart mirror Wesley bought me as a move-in present (lol). I found this lovely standing mirror from Target, so hopefully, my pictures are a little less janky!

I have to say... I lucked out with this lazy outfit. I woke up to a cold, rainy Monday, and I was absolutely not having it. I threw on some comfy jeans, my rain boots -- yes, these 5 inch platform booties are 100% waterproof -- and grabbed Wesley's comfiest flannel. Why are men's flannels the best? Fleece-lined (ish) and FOUR pockets. Why do men need 4 pockets on a shirt? One of these pockets holds more than my 4 teeny tiny pants pockets combined. I digress. Well, by the time I got to school, the temperature dropped 10 degrees, and it started snowing unexpectedly. These are the days I miss living in NC and SC. It *might* snow?? Cancel school for the week! In CA, there is no such thing. Oh, it's snowing 5 inches? We are following our regular bell schedule... Drive safe!

It was another cold, rainy day in the 2nd sunniest city in America... but it's Target Tuesday, so that made it bearable. It was a fairly uneventful day, which is not a bad thing as a speech therapist! I wrote some IEPs, wrote a speech and language report, did some therapy, and prepped for my upcoming sessions. I highly recommend this cropped vest by the way! It's surprisingly warm and super cute... bonus: I got it for under $20!

This was the only sunny day this week, so I went with a cheery shirt. I like to wear something happy or positive on Wednesdays since I do a lot of group work. I have my 2 social communication groups, and I have been working on reframing their mindsets to be more positive via weekly affirmations. And, let me tell you, I have noticed a HUGE difference in the students. I also work with the SDC-I class during their cooking activity as well as lead a group speech activity later in the day. All of the students I work with on Wednesdays benefit from visual cues, so why not wear them as a reminder?

I feel like we need a new weatherman in Redding. Once again, I had no idea it was going to snow... This time it snowed heavily for 5 hours straight. Meanwhile, I'm wearing booties with no socks and light sweater with no jacket. Did the weatherman report potential snow? No. And once again, the school did not send us home early. I'm only a tad salty. I am glad I got to break out the leather pants again before it truly starts to heat up in NorCal. I've tried a lot of different leather leggings and pants, and I didn't like them. Leather pants can be tricky because they are usually lined with a thick, non-breathable fabric that makes you sweat, or they are super cheap and squeak when you move. These pants from Old Navy are warm but lightweight and they don't make weird noises when you walk!

This was a good day to end the week on! In one of the SDC-I classes, we made s'mores, and I used a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup instead of Hershey's. GAME CHANGER. 10/10 recommend. Because of the snow, I had some weird gaps in my schedule, so I spent my free time hanging out in the SDC-I classroom providing some embedded speech therapy and building rapport with the students. As a speech therapist, rapport is the most important thing! I don't want my students to just know me as 'the speech therapist', so I make a point to spend time with them outside of 'speech therapy' (even though I am always monitoring their language and cueing as needed). I was also gifted the best compliment from the SDC-I teacher: he told me how great of a job I was doing, how seamlessly I integrated myself into the classrooms and with the students, and how lucky they are to have me. Hearing that reaffirmed that I am exactly where I need to be right now!
So interesting!! Good for you. And I’m so proud of you. I miss seeing you! Love, Emily
