What I Wear as a High School SLP Pt.2

So ready for spring weather, I've been prepping my Shein shopping cart since January.

This week was filled with mixed emotions. I think it had something to do with the weather. As an empath, I find that I am very sensitive to the weather. It was probably a good idea for me to move to one of the sunniest places in America. But even the sunniest places have cloudy, rainy days... I guess that's how we appreciate the bright, sunny days even more. Last week gave me too much hope for warmer weather coming soon. And, to make matters worse, Punxsutawney Phil decided to see his shadow. I'm just ready for spring weather... is that too much to ask? We started off the week brisk and cloudy, hit the warm weather mid-week, and ended with a dreary Friday. Much like the weather, my mood fluctuated throughout the week. I'm hoping for sunnier weather next week to help brighten my spirits. But until then, here's what I wore this week:

Monday

Thinking back to Monday feels like it happened 10 days ago. It was a Monday that felt like a Monday in the worst kind of way. Luckily, I got to end on a high note with the literacy intervention class I help co-teach each week. I challenged them with writing limericks. If you're not familiar, limericks follow a specific syllabic pattern and rhyming scheme and consist of 5 lines. Lines 1, 2, and 5 are usually 8-9 syllables and rhyme with each other. Lines 3 and 4 are usually 5-6 syllables and rhyme. Some of the students thrived with this assignment and really showcased their talents as well as their humor! Oh, I almost forgot: my day ended with the school psychologist breaking into my office while I was co-teaching and stealing my therapy chair...

Tuesday

Tuesday is Target day! And yes, I wore heels to Target. I told you they are the best heels ever! This is also one of my favorite Shein finds, I always get lots of compliments from the teachers and students. Tuesday was a good day all around. Highly recommend getting a job that lets you go to Target in the middle of the day.

Wednesday

Wednesday was a little bit of a downer this week, too. We had required ALICE training discussions in my 2 social communication classes. If you're unfamiliar with ALICE, you're lucky: it's what to do if there is a school shooting. I appreciate how seriously my school takes this matter because it has become so prevalent, but it is a very scary concept for a lot of students (and staff members). We spent about 30 minutes discussing various scenarios and what we would do if this were to happen. We followed the ALICE discussion with a brief social communication lesson carrying over from the previous week: emotional regulation and perspective-taking. I also had a mom attend one of my sessions, which was a first for me in the school setting. I still have a job, so I guess it went well!

Thursday

I ventured to the other high school and wore my best pinks. I did take a risk with these Steve Madden booties -- they are usually so uncomfortable because they pinch my toes and have no cushion to them. BUT, I think after 4 years and 4 wears, I have finally broken them in haha. They were great today, and I got tons of compliments (which means it was a good day). One of my students even made me a cute pink beaded bracelet! On this day, the SDC-I class worked on their cooking skills and made french toast -- I even got a piece since there was gluten-free bread.

Friday

This was my last lowkey Friday. I had Fridays reserved for bowling and billing, which was *usually* a great way to end the work week. This Friday in particular gave me mixed signals: was it a good day or a bad day? Still unsure. Since my therapy chair was literally stolen by a coworker, I ordered 2 new chairs that arrived this day. Super exciting because they are pink velvet chairs with gold accents! It took me hours to build 1 chair... I built the first one fairly easily, so I tried to build the other one quickly. 2.5 hours later, we finally got it. These chairs only had like 5 screws each... one just didn't line up perfectly so it was a challenge. I also had 2 students come in during lunch/while I troubleshooting this dang chair. One kid *really* wanted some candy even though I said, "Not today because I have screws and chair parts strewn about my office, and I don't want you to trip or kick anything." He proceeded to ignore me when I wasn't looking and tripped over a chair part... exactly what I knew would happen. I don't just talk for my health, ya know...
